Ukraine as of last year was one of the world’s biggest agricultural exporters, particularly in grain and oilseeds. That’s what makes this news so worrying, not just for battered Ukraine but for the world: “Russia strikes Odessa, Ukraine [destroying grain warehouse] one day after grain deal.” Based on a Bloomberg piece, this attack could cause the prices of wheat and vegetable oil to skyrocket and could also “depress the next crop plantings” in Ukraine.
