Exclusive analysis: A few days before Iran’s regime was found planning to prosecute anyone who encouraged the removal of mandatory female head coverings, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei slammed the West for supposedly hurting Iranian women. The Iranian regime’s thugs have raped, tortured, and arrested tens of thousands of protestors in the country, and even killed some. Yet Khamenei—head of a regime that’s a state sponsor of terrorism—is apparently blaming Iranian women’s situation on the West.
“The West has no mercy for Iranian women,” Khamenei’s account tweeted April 6. “They even hold a grudge against them because if it wasn’t for the presence of women, the Islamic Revolution wouldn’t have succeeded.”
Iranian women must submit to oppression and abuse, living as second class citizens, or face torture and arrest. And men who stand with these brave women are also targeted by the Iranian regime. Khamenei has absolutely no moral high ground here.
