Governor Mike DeWine of Ohio issued an emergency executive order on Friday banning gender transition surgery for minors. The order comes a week after the GOP governor vetoed House Bill 68, which was set to ban all gender-affirming care for those under 18. The proposed legislation, which DeWine vetoed Dec. 29, is called the Saving Ohio Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act. It would have protected minors from experimental puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones and prevented boys who claim to be girls from participating in female sports.
