Why Democrats and the DSA Keep Peddling the Scandinavian Socialism Fairy Tale
Folks, if you’ve been paying attention to the latest Democratic Socialist of America (DSA) antics, you’ve probably heard the same old song: “Look at Sweden! Look at Norway! Real socialism works!” This week, rising DSA star Darializa Avila Chevalier got asked a straightforward question—if there’s ever been a successful socialist model anywhere that delivers both human rights and economic justice. Her answer? Sweden and Norway, naturally. It’s the same tired line Bernie Sanders has been crooning for years.
At Whatfinger News, America’s Frontline Truth Feed, we’re not buying the snow job. Let’s cut through the Nordic fog with some straight talk, a dash of reality, and the kind of wit that makes even a Florida retiree chuckle.
First off, these Scandinavian countries aren’t socialist paradises—they’re capitalist success stories with hefty welfare states slapped on top, funded by… wait for it… capitalism. Private property, free markets, competition, and entrepreneurship are the engines. The government just taxes the heck out of the proceeds to hand out benefits. It’s social democracy, not “seize the means of production” Marxism.
Denmark’s own former Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen set the record straight back in 2015 at Harvard: “Denmark is far from a socialist planned economy. Denmark is a market economy.” He emphasized the Nordic model as a successful market economy with freedom to chase your dreams—not some collectivist utopia. Continued below this next vid

Sweden flirted with heavy socialist-style policies in the 1970s and 80s—sky-high taxes, heavy regulation—and it led to economic stagnation and a banking crisis. They smartened up in the 1990s, cut taxes, deregulated, introduced school choice, and got back on track. Today, they rank among the freest economies on Earth. According to economic freedom indexes, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway often outscore the U.S. in key capitalist metrics.
Norway? Sure, they have big welfare programs, but a huge chunk comes from oil revenues—not magical socialist pixie dust. They slap massive taxes on that oil (up to 78% on extractive industries) to pay the bills. Take away the North Sea black gold, and the model’s math changes fast.
These countries are tiny compared to the U.S.—populations smaller than many American states. Homogeneous cultures, high trust, strong work ethics, and histories of prosperity long before big welfare states. Try scaling that “free stuff for everyone” dream to 330+ million diverse Americans chasing the next big opportunity. It doesn’t pencil out without turning into the kind of government overreach that chokes innovation.
Socialists who point to Sweden as what they’re shooting for don’t realize that Sweden is a very successful free-market economy. It has a higher rate of billionaires per million population than does the United States!
The DSA and their allies love this myth because it sells to young voters tired of student loans and high rents: “Vote for us and get free lattes and Pilates like in the fjords!” Meanwhile, the actual Scandinavians keep saying, “Uh, we’re not socialist.” It’s like claiming your neighbor’s perfectly manicured lawn proves grass grows better when you stop mowing—ignoring all the hard work, fertilizer, and private property rights underneath.
History shows socialism’s track record is a dumpster fire: bigger nations that went full collectivist (think France under Mitterrand) had to reverse course. From the Soviet Union to Venezuela, central planning and “equality” experiments deliver shared misery, not justice. The left rewrites this history because, as Lenin and Stalin knew, propaganda is key to selling the unsellable.
Jonathan Turley tackles this head-on in his book Rage and the Republic, exposing how these myths fuel rage politics over reason. Chevalier herself? She’s a true believer who’s praised Marxist ideas and “seizing the means.” Her background includes radical activism that doesn’t exactly scream “human rights champion.” Yet she beat an incumbent, showing how the pitch works on disillusioned voters. In fact, we at Whatfinger News have put forth the proposition that the DSA will take over all Blue states where voter fraud is in control. They know how to use the system, and the other Democrats will sit by and allow the take-over. This all happens just in the next few years, unless Trump can stop voter fraud at the Federal level.
At Whatfinger News, we say keep your eyes on what actually works: free markets, limited government, and individual liberty—the American formula that’s lifted more people out of poverty than any Nordic import ever could. Socialism sounds nice until you run out of other people’s money… or oil.
The next time a DSA type points to Scandinavia, just smile and ask: “Have you checked what their prime ministers actually say?” Spoiler: It’s not “more Marxism, please.”
