Talks in Cairo are reportedly advancing toward the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire, with Palestinian Islamic Jihad-affiliated media claiming an announcement could come later today.
According to the report, Hamas would place its heavy weapons into storage as part of the proposal, while a diplomatic official told The Times of Israel that negotiations are focused on the decommissioning of all weapons, the dismantling of Hamas’s military infrastructure, and transferring full authority in Gaza to a Palestinian technocratic government backed by an international force. The proposal would still require Israeli approval before taking effect.
