    Real New Yorkers are asked how Zohran Mamdani is going as mayor, they say he is destroying their city and draining their money “There’s such a delightful disconnect between how he’s doing and how people think he’s doing. He’s doing terribly. There’s homeless everywhere. They’re just spending money they don’t have But to these kids, just like they spend their parents’ money on college, they actually think, “Oh, look, he balanced the budget.” No, he borrowed $45 billion from the state, right. Then he deferred tax payments with interest or something. Like, this isn’t success. It’s not successful to defer payments you owe and to rack up debt to the state. But the problem, of course, people like this, he’s so smart. He moved in here. He took advantage of liberal idiots who are not the people who voted, by the way — only, like, 10% of the city voted in the mayoral election — The people making the city make money are not voting for him. It’s random losers. It’s liberal white women. It’s college students. It’s Muslims. They voted for him, and now he took this thing that was built by the rich, that was built by the successful, and he’s draining it of assets — It was never his to destroy, but it’s his now” – @Brookerteejones

    What actually happened was the state gave New York City extra money and permission to push pension payments further into the future Because of this Zohran Mamdani was able to act like the budget was balanced, but all they did was push the payments into the future But here’s what Zohran Mamdani isn’t telling you, by doing that, it means that New York City will actually owe an extra $8 billion over the next decade on top of what they pushed back It’s pure description and it’s bankrupting NYC So again, to give the illusion that the budget is balanced American taxpayers now owe an extra $8 billion they wouldn’t have had to pay because of Zohran Mamdani
