The legal team for D4vd—real name David Burke—have been replaced by a public defender after they requested to withdraw from the trial regarding Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s murder. During an Aug. 31 pretrial hearing, the 21-year-old “Romantic Homicide” singer said “yes” when a judge asked if he wished to receive appointed counsel, with public defender Walid Fouad Kandee subsequently taking over as his representation. Burke has pleaded not guilty to charges including murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 and unlawful mutilation of human remains in the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who died in 2025 at age 14.
