Thousands of Chileans marched to Santiago’s General Cemetery on September 6 ahead of the 53rd anniversary of the 1973 military coup that brought Augusto Pinochet to power. The march, honoring victims of his dictatorship, turned violent when masked protesters threw Molotov cocktails, stones and fireworks at police, who responded with water cannons and tear gas. Authorities said 24 people were detained.
