Hayden Panettiere’s Aug. 16 death at 36 has been ruled an accident, with the cause determined to be toxic effects from the drugs fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office shared the findings Sept. 22, noting that no signs of trauma were found at autopsy. An investigation into her death has been underway since the actress was found unresponsive, and ultimately pronounced, deceased at a residence in South Carolina in August. Before her death, Panettiere—who was with boyfriend Brian Hickerson and his brother Zach Hickerson at the time of her passing—had spoken openly about her struggles with addiction and postpartum depression, including in her 2026 memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning. She was known for her roles in Heroes, Nashville, Remember the Titans and Ice Princess. Panettiere is survived by her daughter, Kaya, 12 whom she shares with ex Wladimir Klitschko.
