A Tennessee murderer who would have been the first woman the state put to death in 200 years managed to survive the execution attempt — a stunning turn of events in the saga of the inmate who brutally killed a friend in 1995, when they were teens.
Christa Pike, 50, is still alive Thursday after receiving two doses of lethal injections after not one, but two botched lethal injections Wednesday night in Tennessee.
Pike, her attorneys — two of whom confirmed Thursday afternoon that she is still alive more than 12 hours after the shocking failure — and a band of supporters had petitioned for a stay of her execution that went all the way up to the Supreme Court at the last minute.
The murderess argued she had blown veins that would be difficult for the executioner to access, making her death extraordinarily excruciating.
