Anti-migrant protests in South Africa turned violent on October 8 in Johannesburg’s Soweto township and the coastal city of Durban, resulting in torched vehicles, gunfire, and looted foreign-owned shops. The clashes in Soweto involved residents and foreign shop owners, while the Durban unrest followed a demonstration demanding a refugee center halt asylum processing.
